Then, in addition to tracking how well you sleep, it’s also a tool designed to help you fall asleep faster, relax your mind, and get the best quality of sleep possible, so you can recharge your brain and your body at night. Instead, it’s a tool that will teach you to understand how well you focus during the day and sleep at night.ĭuring the day, the Muse S can help you mediate effectively and relax your mind, reduce your stress level, and relieve your anxiety using biofeedback, immersive audio and audio narration. This is not a fitness tracker or sleep tracker in the traditional sense. It’s essential that you understand what the Muse S headband is designed to do, and since there are no other products exactly like it on the market, this can be a little confusing. Typically, before each use, a short Signal Quality Check diagnostic will run, so you know the headband is gathering and sharing the appropriate information. You’re then asked to participate in a sample meditation session, which explains how to ensure there’s a clear signal between the headband and your smartphone. The headband’s sensors need to make direct contact with your skin. It should be snug, but not uncomfortably right around your head, and no hair should get in the way. In the future, when you power on the headband, it will automatically pair with your smartphone and the Muse app.Ī short video will then play on your smartphone explaining how to properly fit and wear the headband. Once the sensor pod’s battery is charged, pair your headband to your smartphone. Continue by providing the app with your birthdate, and then answer a few questions about yourself (including whether you're right-handed, left-handed, or ambidextrous), your gender, and your geographic region. Choose between the Sign Up with Google, Sign Up with Apple, or Sign Up with Email option. Upon launching the app, you’ll need to set up a free Muse account. While the sensor pod is charging, download and install the free Muse S Meditation & Sleep mobile app onto your smartphone. When the lights on the side of the sensor pod are fully lit, the Muse S headband is ready to use. An LED light on the side of the sensor pod will show you when its battery is fully charged. While the sensor pod’s battery may already be partially charged initially, the typical charge time from zero takes three hours. Start by plugging the microUSB end of the charging cable into the bottom of the sensor pod and the opposite end into a USB port on your computer to begin the charging process. This is a step that’s listed on the Muse S website, but is not covered within the mobile app. The first time you connect the sensor pod to the headband, make sure you remove the tiny blue protective tab that covers one of the sensors. One end of the headband has an adjustable elastic band to accommodate anyone’s head diameter. Each band is made from a plush and breathable fabric that’s hand-washable. Additional fabric headbands can be purchased separately ($80 each) to accommodate multiple users. The sensor pod easily snaps into the headband. Otherwise, you can plug it into the USB port of your computer. If you want to plug the headband’s sensor pod into an AC outlet to recharge, you’ll need an optional adapter. One box contains the adjustable blue/purple-ish colored headband, and the second box contains the sensor pod that attaches to the headband, along with a microUSB to USB charging cable.
